Question

We have property in River's Edge but won't start building for about three years. When should we begin the process of selecting a builder? We are visiting the area this may. Is that too soon to say hello?

Kate & Jan Miller

DeWitt , Mich

Answer

I would suggest you start the design process first. When you are ready to build look for a builder, or work with a company like ours where we design and build.

Question

I was wondering if you can tell me what the going price per square foot is in the area. My wife and I currently have property in Ocean Ridge and are planning on building in the next couple of years. We may look you up when we visit in April/May tim

Herndon , Va.

Answer

Thank you Herndon, VA. It depends on the features you want for your home, prices can vary from $135 to $185 p.s.f. a lot of that depends on all Brick Exterior or Hardi siding. If you call me and fill out a Features & Allowance sheet we can be more exact on the s.f. price.

Question

My wife and I would like to know what the advantages and disadvantages are to raised slab over crawl space. Hardwood floors are very sensitive to humidity and I understand there is a lot of humidity in the Carolinas.

Answer

Moisture is the #1 element that can distroy hardwood floors. A crawl space with a dry space liner will allow for a minimum moisture. A slab will conduct humidity from the outside and allow moisture. A crawl space also allows for easy access to what is under the floor system.
